About Us

Motivation

Ethiopian Literacy is around 50%.

Ethiopia’s adult literacy rate is extremely low by global standards falling at only 51.77%. This is evidence that Ethiopia trails far behind most of the world in securing education for all. There is also an urban-rural education disparity; even though 80% of Ethiopia’s population reside in rural areas, the urban population makes up a greater percentage of education participation at all levels. The government has made efforts to make education compulsory for at least 8 years, but Ethiopia’s average years of schooling is only 2.8 years. According to the United Nations Human Development Reports the national average years of schooling for female students is even lower at 1.6 years compared to boys’ 3.9 years of schooling. The same report shows that education disparity persists as participations fall increasingly at higher levels of schooling. Consequently, Ethiopia’s skilled labor force makes up a meager 6.8% of the total labor force.
WE BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!!!

Vision

Inspired by the belief that education empowerment is possible through technology, Ewqet was designed to make education possible for all Ethiopians. We believe that access to education should not be hard nor should it be a privilege. With that in mind, Ewqet aims to empower individuals by allowing them to access free educational content any time they want at their own pace.

Who are we?

Ewqet is powered by young Ethiopian professionals and scholars who are passionate about giving back to the community that raised them and made their education possible. Our desire is to serve our community as a conduit of knowledge, which is the light of life.

How will it work in Ethiopia?

Ewqet acknowledges that Ethiopia has very far to go in the area of technology and making internet available to all. We have thought about the various challenges ahead, and we have devised innovative ways of making Ewqet work for Ethiopia. We have designed adaptable strategies that can be implemented in Ethiopia today to make access to online education possible for Ethiopia. Contact us to learn HOW and more about Ewqet.
